Dog River Candle Company was established in 2021 by me, George Silowash. I founded the company to teach my kids business skills, math, and chemistry. Yes, chemistry….I wish I would have paid a bit more attention in high school chemistry class.
Years ago I experimented with a candle making kit from a big-box retailer and enjoyed it. I had very little knowledge about making candles, but enjoyed using the kit. I never really understood or even knew the science involved since I was just following a few instructions on piece of paper. This was all before YouTube.
Fast forward to 2020, we were all stuck at home due to COVID (or the ‘VID as I like to call it). I went down many rabbit holes on YouTube about candle making. After countless hours of watching videos and researching things, I was hooked and ordered my first supplies late in 2020. I began experimenting and first mastered wax melts, which is one of our featured products on the site today. Candles take a long time to master as there are many variables (wick size, type of wax, container, fragrance, etc). I am currently in the final stages of testing for a particular line of candles.
